A seventeenth century architect
Had many settlers to protect.
A perfect building stone he found.
He dug these blocks from in the ground.
St. Augustine is where we've gotzit.
The query now, to you, is WHATZIT?

No!! It's not Rice Crispy Treats!!

WINNER!! : J9!!

See comments.

  1. That is a bunch of seashells that piled up so much they got crushed into a sort of rock. I forget what they call it!

  2. Sciencegirl is, oh so wise.
But she cannot get the prize.
To win this easy WHATZIT game
You must give this stone a name.

  3. It's a stone with a name!
Do I win the naming game?

That's the best I can do today.

  4. I thought it's oatmeal and rice crispy treat too hahaha, I don't have any idea.

  5. It's a compressed shell thingy.....
    Does that "ringy" a bell??
Buh, I can't think of what it's called!!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again Gordon, you always post the coolest things.
And you make me think (and by the way, Prince says to tell you thank you for that because I don't do it very often. Whatever!).
See ya at the shootout pardner :)

    Steady On

  6. I know, I know!!!! I like the color of that block.
Would it be considered cheating if your daughter told?

  7. It would warm this Papa's heart
To have my daughter taking part.
    Even better, after that,
Join our group in nothing flat.
We would love to see your town.
Become a shooter! How does that sound?

  8. Aha, I got it, coquina the name,
do I win this round of the game?

  9. J9! J9! She's so fine!
    She gotzit! She gotzit!
She knows the answer to the WHATZIT!!
She is the wisest of the wise!
J9 has won the WHATZIT prize!!

(J9, if you will email your address to me at I would, seriously, like to send something to make you smile.)

  10. Gigi has the answer, too. Technically, the answer is "coquina stone". Coquina, in Spanish, means tiny shells. The large beds of tiny loose shells that wash up on the beach are called coquina. After the long, long process of compacting in the earth, under great pressure, it turns to stone.

  11. Thank you for the science lesson,
thanks for all the rhyming messing.

  12. Rockin Gordon..........would you be so kind as to add Mildred@Nalley Valley to our Shoot-Out list? There are a few other's and I just can't remember them right this second because my mind is totally numb from work this week. They should all be posting tomorrow and we'll catch them then I suppose?
You're totally awesome dude and I think that's the sweetest thing ever that your kiddo wanted in on your WHATZIT post :)
(Hey, I knew the answer all along.....I just didn't want to be a showoff okay? Would you like to buy the Golden Gate Bridge??)

    Steady On

  13. Yeah! And yet the Golden Gate Bridge is not for sale Reggie Girl!
